Why Mkhitaryan missed Arsenal vs Manchester United

Arsenal vs Manchester United

Arsenal and Man United will go head-to-head on Sunday in a key clash in the battle for a top-four place.

The Gunners started the weekend in 5th place while United sat 4th, one point above Arsenal.

6th place Chelsea could have overtaken Man United earlier on Sunday if they had beaten Wolves.

However, Maurizio Sarri’s side would be held to a 1-1 draw with Eden Hazard scoring a late goal.

So, whoever won between Arsenal and United would be in a great position and also close the gap on 3rd place Tottenham who have lost three league games in a row.

Why Mkhitaryan missed out

As is the norm Arsenal revealed their matchday squad to face Man United one hour before kick-off.

The starting eleven was pretty standard but there was one noticeable omission from the 11 and bench.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has played 27 games across all competitions this season for Unai Emery’s side, scoring six and assisting six.

However, the attacking midfielder would be left completely out of the squad to face United.

Arsenal have since revealed that Mkhitaryan missed Sunday’s game due to a slight back problem.
