Why Mauricio Pochettino is happy he’s only in a top 4 battle with Man United, Arsenal & Chelsea

Southampton 2 – Tottenham 1

Spurs suffered another terrible outing in the Premier League on Saturday losing 2-1 away at Southampton.

For the Saints, a remarkable second half turnaround has boosted survival hopes.

Harry Kane fired Tottenham into the lead at St Mary’s.

But goals from Yann Valery and James Ward Prowse earned Southampton three valuable points.

Man United, Arsenal & Chelsea

Spurs are now firmly in a top four battle with Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

It’s been an awful few weeks for Tottenham as they’ve lost to Burnley, Chelsea and now Southampton.

Indeed, had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a late penalty for Arsenal in the derby, Spurs would have zero points from four games.

Man United are just three points behind Spurs.

Mauricio Pochettino is happy he’s only in a top 4 battle

After the Southampton defeat, Mauricio Pochettino made a remarkable statement.

The Argentine, who was obviously upset after the loss, spun the defeat saying:

Maybe it’s good, people will realise our real level.

Before this dire run of results, Tottenham were being mentioned in the title race with Man City and Liverpool.

Pochettino’s comment is revealing about how the Spurs manager views his own squad and situation.

Christian Eriksen after Southampton

Christian Eriksen also spoke after the Saints game.

The Danish playmaker acknowledged the club’s poor run of results.
