Tottenham ‘closely following’ situation of Chelsea defender

Tottenham Hotspur are expressing an interest in the signature of a struggling member of the defensive ranks at Premier League rivals Chelsea, according to reports.

The Blues star in question? Marc Cucurella.

Left-back Cucurella, of course, only made the move to Stamford Bridge last summer.

Fresh off a stellar debut campaign with Brighton & Hove Albion, the powers that be at Chelsea agreed to fork over a hefty £60 million to bring the Spaniard to west London.

To say that Cucurella failed to reach the heights of his form in Brighton colours across his first season in Chelsea blue, though, would be something of an understatement.

All told, the 24-year-old managed starts in just 21 of his new club’s 38 Premier League outings.

Such woes, in turn, have led to inevitable chatter surrounding a swift summer exit for the former Getafe standout.

To this point, the likes of Newcastle United and Atletico Madrid have both been tipped as potential landing spots.

And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday evening is anything to go by, yet another club now appear to have inserted themselves in the Cucurella sweepstakes.

As per a report from Football Transfers:

‘Tottenham are closely following the situation of Marc Cucurella at Chelsea, sources have revealed to FootballTransfers.’

Incoming Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is understood to be a keen admirer of the Spaniard’s talents, viewing Cucurella as the ideal replacement for the outbound Ivan Perisic.

It remains to be seen, however, just how much Chelsea would demand for a player who set them back such a hefty chunk of change just 12 months ago.
