Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has set tongues wagging across the Reds’ fanbase late on Friday night, courtesy of an update on the club’s plans for the remainder of the transfer window.
Calls, of course, have long mounted for one area of Liverpool’s squad to be reinforced, ahead of what looks set to prove a long and gruelling campaign.
The position in question? Central midfield.
Owing to a combination of persistent injury troubles, and declining form, the Merseysiders’ once fierce ranks in the middle of the park are now in fact viewed as more of a weak point.
To this point in the summer, Jurgen Klopp had nevertheless remained adamant that the club would not be dipping into the transfer market to address the issue, though.
But, as alluded to above, late on Friday, Liverpool’s boss has revealed a major change in stance at Anfield.
Asked for the latest on the Reds’ efforts on the market during an exchange with the media, Klopp confirmed that ‘we are going for a midfielder’.
The German tactician was also keen to reiterate, though, that he will only sanction the arrival of ‘the right’ profile of player.
