Leeds transfer latest: One signing announced, another agreed

The transfer efforts of the powers that be at Championship outfit Leeds United have taken their place front and centre in the headlines on Thursday evening.

This comes with the Whites have announced one high-profile signing, before swiftly agreeing another.

First, through the door has come Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.

As per an official announcement across the club’s website and social media platforms:

‘Leeds United Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Swansea City striker Joel Piroe, subject to a work permit and international clearance.’

The Dutchman, who managed 19 goals in The Championship in 2022/23, is understood to have set his new employers back a fee with the potential to rise to £12 million.

Piroe has put pen to paper on a four-year contract in west Yorkshire.

As alluded to above, though, the Leeds brass do not appear to be done there.

Just hours on from the club’s marquee summer arrival being announced, reports have surfaced, pointing towards another key target inching towards a move to Elland Road.

The player in question? Nadiem Amiri.

As per the reliable Phil Hay of The Athletic:

‘Leeds United are pushing to follow up the signing of Joel Piroe with a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri after agreeing a fee for the Germany international.’

Attacking midfielder Amiri, for his part, was understood to be close to linking up with French giants Olympique Marseille earlier this week.

With such discussions having since cooled, though, Leeds have swooped in decisive fashion, agreeing a £5 million deal with their counterparts at Bayer Leverkusen.

The five-time capped German international remains in his home country at the time of writing, yet to fully commit to a move to The Championship.

Hope, though, is high that he will soon be convinced, ahead of the transfer’s potential completion ‘before the end of the weekend’.
