Erik ten Hag makes surprise Manchester United transfer admission

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has made a surprise transfer admission over the weekend.

Anthony Martial was expected to leave Old Trafford during the 2023 summer transfer window.

The Frenchman will have just one year left on his current deal come the summer, meaning it would make sense for United to cash on him then.

Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 from AS Monaco and was tipped to be the next French mega star.

However, that has not panned out at all. The now 27-year-old has had several chances to stake a claim as the Red Devils’ main no.9, but on each occasion, he has come up short.

Martial spent much of 2022/23 on the sidelines and has so far scored just four league goals this term.

So, it is likely to come as a shock to most when speaking in a recent press conference, Erik ten Hag stated that he expects Martial to stay at Man United beyond the summer:

“He’s a great player – he definitely has the qualities to play in top football – and when he is fit our team plays better.” And going on to confirm he still wants Martial to be at the club next season, the United boss added: “From my point of view, yes [Martial will stay].”
