Dennis Wise has made his feelings on Jordan Henderson very clear, admitting he thinks the player is a key man for both Liverpool ahead of the Champions League final and also England this summer in Russia.
The midfielder has suffered from injury issues this season and Wise thinks that he needs to stay fit – because there aren’t any other players who can do his job in the squad.
“I think it (the Champions League) is very important, for his confidence anyway,” Wise said of the Liverpool star Sky Sports.
“I think the guy’s playing extremely well. I think he’s one of those players who is a bit of an unsung hero. He sits in there and he breaks things up.
“I look at the midfield and I think the worrying think about the midfield for me is Jordan is probably the only one that can play this ball in behind and really create a ball from a long distance.
“I look at the other midfield players and think they are very much players that like to run at people, like the ball, like short passes.
“I think he’s the one that can open people up with long-range passing.
“I think it’s a slight problem, if something happens to him, because everything then becomes quite short.
“So hopefully he will get through things and he will be fine.
“But I think he’s an important player in this competition, I really do.”
One thing that will be vital for Liverpool is of course keeping Henderson fit for the final against Real Madrid – and the Reds know they’re struggling for players in the middle of the park.
That’s of course before the consideration of England is even made – with Hendo keen to represent both his club and country in one of the most vital periods of his career.
