Steve Bruce gives Newcastle injury update before Tottenham

Tottenham vs Newcastle

Steve Bruce’s stint as Newcastle boss has not gotten off to the best start.

The Magpies had a decent showing in their opening game, which they narrowly lost 1-0 vs Arsenal.

However, Newcastle would be hammered 3-1 in their second league outing of the new season, away to newly-promoted Norwich.

Bruce must now face another tough test in his third game in charge.

Newcastle are away to Tottenham on Sunday.

Spurs beat Aston Villa 3-1 in their opening league tie of 2019/20, and then held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad this past weekend.

Newcastle injury update

Ahead of what should be a tough test in north London, Steve Bruce has provided an injury update on his squad.

Allan Saint-Maximin missed Newcastle’s 3-1 loss vs Norwich last weekend due to injury, with Bruce stating in his press conference on Friday that he hopes the winger will be fit.

However, Bruce also confirmed that it is too early for both Andy Carroll and Dwight Gayle.

On a more positive note, Bruce said that Joelinton is fine:

“We hope that Allan Saint-Maximin is going to be OK. It’s still too early for Andy Carroll or Dwight Gayle, but Christian Atsu has been on the pitch this week.

“It was good to see him and see what he’ll offer us. Joelinton is fine.”
