‘They’re a big team in Europe’
Steve Bruce has been speaking to Sky Sports News and the Aston Villa boss has confirmed that Villa will struggle to keep hold of Jack Grealish despite Villa’s new owners not wanting to sell him.
Bruce has also confirmed the two clubs are in contact over Grealish but no agreement has been reached, yet.
“There’s no question that he’s a really, really top player. I don’t say it very often, but he can play in any team. That’s what I think of him. Now, the two clubs haven’t reached an agreement yet.
“Now the owner has said he’s not for sale and that’s what he wants. In an ideal world that’s what we all want, me the manager, the supporters, we don’t want him to go.
“However, it will be difficult when we’re competing against a team that is one of the big teams in Europe now, not just this country. They’re a big team in Europe, competing in the Champions League.
“But the owner’s made it pretty clear that he doesn’t want to sell anybody and that includes Jack. If there is a huge, huge, offer then we’ll have to wait and see.”
Exciting young talent
Grealish started his career with Aston Villa but he did spend some time out on loan at Notts County.
During his loan spell with Notts County, he would make 39 appearances, scoring five and assisting seven.
Grealish has also played 43 games for Aston Villa’s U23 side. During those 43 games, he scored six and assisted nine.
However, despite being just 22 years of age, Grealish has already racked up an impressive 110 appearances for Aston Villa’s first team.
The Englishman has scored nine and assisted 15 in that time. But it was this past season which showed what a top talent Grealish could potentially be.
Grealish missed the start of the 2017/18 Championship season due to injury. However, when he came back he was one of Villa’s best players, scoring three and assisting five in 27 league appearances.
