Heung Min Son South Korea Germany World Cup

Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son makes a fool of ‘racist’ Chilean midfielder Diego Valdes

South Korea 0 – Chile 0

South Korea versus Chile wasn’t the most memorable friendly during the international break.

The match ended 0-0.

To be fair to the Koreans, they’ve recently triumphed at the Asian Games.

As a result, Tottenham star Heung-Min Son has won his exemption from military service.

Heung-Min Son’s superb nutmeg vs Diego Valdes

Spurs fans are sharing images of an amazing piece of skill from Heung-Min Son from the Chile game.

After just two minutes of the match, Tottenham’s Son made a fool of Chilean midfielder Diego Valdes.

Son nutmegged Valdes with a cheeky backheel.

Diego Valdes accused of racism

Diego Valdes is in hot water after being accused of racism.

The Chile midfielder was pictured making a stereotypical eye-gesture in the build-up to the South Korea game:

Valdes has since turned to social media in an attempt to pour cold water on the incident.

He’s claimed “it was never my intention to offend”.

Is that really a good enough excuse?

Edwin Cardona precedent

Will Diego Valdes now be banned?

There is (sadly) recent precedent for this type of racist issue, after Colombia’s Edwin Cardona made a similar gesture in a match against South Korea.

Edwin Cardona was banned for five international matches as a result of his offensive behaviour.
