Pedri equals La Liga benchmark after latest Barcelona winner vs Villarreal
A head-turning statistic surrounding the stellar efforts of Barcelona star Pedri across the season to date has come to the fore late on Sunday evening.
Pedri, of course, proved himself the star of the show for Barca once more a short time ago.
This came as Xavi Hernandez’s troops made the trip to El Madrigal, in the knowledge that a victory over Villarreal would see them surge an eye-watering 11 points clear atop the La Liga table.
And, when all was said and done, a solitary goal proved enough to guide the Blaugrana to precisely that.
The scorer? That man Pedri.
After a clever exchange with Robert Lewandowski split the Villarreal backline wide open, Barcelona’s diminutive midfield gem slotted a deft finish home, to take all three points back to Catalunya’s capital.

In fact, no player has been responsible for more points being directly added to the board in La Liga in 2022/23 than the 20-year-old, who it is worth remembering is not an attacker, but a midfielder.
As per statisticians Opta, Pedri’s six goals thus far this term have guided Barca directly to 10 points.
This is good enough for joint-best in Spain’s top-flight, alongside Real Betis’ Borja Iglesias.
10 – No player has won more points for his team with his goals than Pedri González in LaLiga this season (10 points with 6 goals, level with Borja Iglesias, 10 points with 9 goals). Gold. pic.twitter.com/02YhY7hYoR
