Ozzy Osbourne: Aston Villa pay tribute after heavy metal legend dies weeks after farewell gig at Villa Park

Aston Villa have paid tribute to heavy metal legend and lifelong fan Ozzy Osbourne following his death at the age of 76.

Osbourne’s family released a statement confirming he had passed away on Tuesday morning, just weeks after a farewell gig with his Black Sabbath team-mates in his home city of Birmingham.

The legendary frontman performed from a throne at Villa Park on July 5, telling adoring fans: “You’ve no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

It was a gig put together with performances from some of his favourite acts, including Metallica and Guns N’ Roses, for the star’s “final bow”.

After his passing, Villa paid their respects to the Prince of Darkness, who grew up in Aston and supported the club form a young age.

The Midlands club said: “Aston Villa Football Club is saddened to learn that world-renowned rockstar and Villan, Ozzy Osbourne has passed away.

“Growing up in Aston, not far from Villa Park, Ozzy always held a special connection to the club and the community he came from.

“The thoughts of everyone at Aston Villa are with his wife Sharon, his family, friends, and countless fans at this extremely difficult time.

“Rest in peace, Ozzy.”

Osbourne appeared alongside Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler in Aston Villa’s kit unveiling last season, while his face was displayed on a tifo before one of the club’s Champions League games.
