Nuno Espirito Santo back in the lead for Tottenham Hotspur job

Nuno Espirito Santo back in the lead for Tottenham Hotspur job

Tottenham’s managerial hotseat being left cold

Ah, the race for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial role has certainly been one that fans of rival clubs have enjoyed.

The Lilywhites have been without a permanent head-coach since Jose Mourinho was fired at the beginning of April, leaving the inexperienced Ryan Mason in charge of the side.

The situation has been further complicated by Spurs’ qualification for the UEFA Conference League, Europe’s third-tier competition, and star striker Harry Kane’s desire to leave the club.

In their public chase for a new manager, Spurs have been left high and dry by high profile tacticians Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino and Julen Lopetegui, as well as lower-profile options such as Gennaro Gattuso and Paulo Fonseca.

All this means that, nearly three months after Mourinho departed the club, there is still no new boss at the helm.

Nuno Espirito Santo back in the race

It was thought that Nuno Espirito Santo, last in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers, had been passed over for the job in North London.

However, perhaps due to a lack of alternatives, the Daily Mail report that the Portuguese boss is rapidly becoming the new favourite to take over at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium

The report also links Brighton and Hove Albion’s Graham Potter to the vacant job, although he is behind Santo in the pecking order.

For his part, it is said that Santo has received “the backing of chairman Daniel Levy and new Football Managing Director Fabio Paratici”, which will certainly go a long way towards securing his services.

Could Tottenham’s long and tortuous managerial hunt finally be reaching a crescendo?
