Eriksen flirts with Real Madrid
Christian Eriksen has been one of Tottenham’s top stars since his arrival from Ajax in 2013.
In 277 games across all competitions for Spurs, Eriksen has scored 66 and assisted 86.
However, at the end of the 2018/19 season, Eriksen put his future in North London very much in doubt.
Eriksen stated that he would like a new challenge and was hopeful of a resolution during the summer.
The Danish international also mentioned a potential move to Real Madrid:
“I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new.
“I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham – I will not be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new.
“I hope there will be a resolution during the summer. That’s the plan.
“It’s a step up. But it requires Real Madrid to call Tottenham and say they want Christian. And they have not done so yet, as far as I know.” As quoted by Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet.
Poch on Eriksen’s future
However, since that Eriksen interview, not a lot has happened regarding Eriksen leaving.
Eriksen’s hopes of a move to the Spanish capital were somewhat dampened when Marca reported that Zinedine Zidane only wanted to sign Paul Pogba this summer and not Eriksen.
Now, with the 2019/20 season edging closer, Mauricio Pochettino has spoken out about Eriksen.
Pochettino was interviewed at the Grand Prix on Sunday the 14th of July and was asked if Eriksen would be staying at Tottenham, to which the Argentine responded:
“I hope, yes. He’s a great player, Christian – he’s one of the biggest talents in football.
“After five years with him, I have always enjoyed the way he plays. But you know, there is a lot of interest for different players. I hope yes, but I don’t know what is going to happen in the end.”
