Mathieu Debuchy is the ‘best in Europe’ after leaving Arsenal

From Arsenal to St Etienne

On the final day of the January transfer window, Mathieu Debuchy left Arsenal to join St Etienne.

Debuchy’s final few seasons at Arsenal weren’t overly enjoyable.

The right-back was injured for much of his Gunners career. In fact, Debuchy only made 29 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal after joining in 2014.

Debuchy moved to St Etienne on a free transfer after his contract was terminated at Arsenal.

But since leaving the north London club, Debuchy is now a player reborn for Les Verts.

Mathieu Debuchy was the hero for the visitors as he bagged the winner just a few minutes from time.

Since leaving Arsenal, Debuchy’s scoring stats are off the charts.

Debuchy is the highest scoring defender in Europe’s top 5 leagues in 2018. The former Arsenal defender has scored 4 goals for St Etienne, plus one own goal.

It’s also worth noting that since Mathieu Debuchy signed for St Etienne in January, they have not lost a single game.

Debuchy & World Cup

There’s now plenty of talk that Debuchy should be in the French squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Indeed, some in the French media wonder whether 32-year-old Debuchy should be in the French squad as a defender or a forward!

It’s a truly remarkable turnaround for a player who was stunted to the sidelines at Arsenal.
