Manchester United fans hand one player new nickname during Atletico Madrid clash

Manchester United are currently locked in Champions League action with Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils headed into the game having scrapped a 1-1 draw with the Spanish outfit in the reverse fixture last time out after Anthony Elanga came off the bench to net a late equaliser.

Since then, Manchester United have struggled for form and have been knocked out of the Premier League top-four whilst Atletico have won three in a row.

Manchester United fans hand Fred new nickname

Manchester United would start Tuesday’s game brightly and could have easily taken the lead after 12 minutes when Anthony Elanga got on the end of a Bruno Fernandes cross. However, the striker directed his shot at Jan Oblak’s head.

Elsewhere, whilst Harry Maguire began the game in his typically shaky fashion, Fred was one of United’s better players early on.

The Brazilian was playing with a confidence he has lacked throughout much of his Man United stint, taking on players with some fancy tricks and pressing really well in a more advanced role.

This would lead to Fred being affectionately dubbed ‘Fredinho’ by the United faithful during the match:
