Man United set to make £25m bid for Newcastle’s Longstaff – Standard

Man United eyeing Longstaff

Manchester United are set to make a £25 million bid for Newcastle youngster Sean Longstaff, according to the Evening Standard.

Longstaff is a product of Newcastle’s youth system. He has made just 13 senior appearances for the Magpies, though, in which he has scored two and assisted one.

Nine of those appearances came in the 2018/19 Premier League campaign between December and March.

The 21-year-old had begun to show signs that he could be a top talent. But he was unfortunately injured and missed the rest of the season with a knee problem.

Herrera replacement?

Longstaff is a central midfielder who can play in a box-to-box role or drop further back into more of a holding role.

As a result, the Englishman could be the perfect replacement for Ander Herrera at Manchester United.

Herrera’s current United deal runs out on July 1st , and he has already announced his intention to depart Old Trafford this summer.

The aforementioned report from the Standard also states that Man United have thought about signing Bruno Fernandes, Idrissa Gueye and Youri Tielemans as they look to strengthen in the centre of the park.

In addition, it outlines how Newcastle have held off on opening fresh contract talks with Longstaff until they get Rafael Benitez’s future sorted.
