Virgil van Dijk ‘agrees’ new Liverpool deal
This is potentially big news for Liverpool.
A few days after Virgil van Dijk was crowned the best player in Europe in 2018-19, Liverpool have reportedly agreed a new contract with the Dutch defender.
The Mirror on Sunday report the following:
Virgil van Dijk has agreed his massive new contract with Liverpool.
The fresh terms will give him a considerable uplift on the £125,000-a-week basic he secured when moving from the south coast club, pushing him nearer to £200,000-a-week and tie him to the six-time European Cup winners until 2025.

Have Liverpool or Van Dijk confirmed the contract agreement?
No, not yet.
It’s also unclear when the parties will ratify the new deal, as the Mirror offer no timeframe regarding that announcement.
Van Dijk, of course, is currently away on international duty with Holland.
Man United & Harry Maguire
The Mirror try to suggest that Liverpool’s new deal with van Dijk is a reaction to Harry Maguire’s summer move from Leicester to Man United.
The tabloid claim that van Dijk’s contract was prompted by “the £69million benchmark set by new Manchester United signing Harry Maguire.”
Yet, the Mirror somewhat contradict themselves, as it’s later revealed that Liverpool’s efforts to sign van Dijk to an improved contract started long before Maguire’s Man United switch:
The parties had been discussing improved terms for Van Dijk, even before the £80m world-record fee for a defender that was secured when Maguire left Leicester for Old Trafford.
