Good for Arsenal: Napoli want Petr Cech on loan, suggests Bernd Leno to Arsenal is on

Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has today given Arsenal fans hope of signing Bayer Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno.

Di Marzio has today reported that Napoli have asked Arsenal about loaning Petr Cech next season.

This is very positive for Arsenal for two reasons. One because if Cech is available to be loaned out, that would suggest Arsenal have a replacement lined up, likely Leno.

And two, Napoli were the other team close to signing Leno. But if they are instead looking to sign Cech, that would suggest Arsenal are in pole position to sign the German.

Quality keeper

Leno moved to Leverkusen in 2013 from fellow German side Stuttgart for a fee in the region of £6.75 million.

Since signing for Leverkusen Leno has become a top quality shot-stopper. In 304 games for Leverkusen, he has kept a very impressive 100 clean sheets.

Leno also has strong leadership qualities as he has been Bayer Leverkusen captain on many occasions, including 16 times this season.

However, Leno currently finds himself out of favour at Leverkusen and has been told he is free to leave this summer.

Pushed out

The reason Bernd Leno is now free to leave Leverkusen this summer is because Bayer Leverkusen were able to sign goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lukas Hradecky had an excellent season for Eintracht Frankfurt and his excellent shot stopping helped guide them to the DFB-POKAL final were they managed to beat German giants Bayern Munich 3-1.

Leverkusen’s sporting director Rudi Völler stated that,

“We’re very happy to have strengthened our team with an outstanding goalkeeper,

“Lukas Hradecky is an excellent Bundesliga keeper, has international experience and was an absolute leader in Frankfurt.

“He demonstrated his quality impressively in the Cup final.”

However, with Hradecky now at Leverkusen, Leno appears to be pushed out of his number one spot, which has given Arsenal hope of signing the German.

And now that Cech looks to be on the move to Napoli, it would suggest Arsenal have a replacement lined up, which is likely Leno.
