Hansi Flick hailed a “perfect evening” and praised the mentality of his Barcelona side after they fought back from 2-1 down to win a gripping Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
Barcelona kept their hopes of winning the treble alive with victory in Seville, but required a recovery mission after Madrid turned the game on its head in the second half following Pedri’s sublime first-half opener.
Kylian Mbappe’s 70th-minute free-kick and Aurelien Tchouameni’s header seemingly put Madrid on course for triumph, only for Ferran Torres to level with a wonderfully composed finish from Lamine Yamal’s pinpoint ball over the top.
Barca saw a 96th-minute penalty overturned following a VAR review at the pitchside monitor despite Raul Asencio appearing to foul Raphinha.

But they were the stronger team in extra time and Jules Kounde’s powerful low drive into the bottom-left corner in the 116th minute secured victory.
It means Flick is now seven for seven in finals across his spells as a coach with Bayern Munich and Barca. He could yet make it eight for eight if Barca complete the treble with triumph in the Champions League.
After the game, though, he ensured the praise was focused firmly on the players.
“I’m here to create an atmosphere in the club, in the dressing room that they like and enjoy,” Flick told reporters at his post-match press conference.
“They have it and the support from us to tell them that we believe in them. It’s about that but also the whole staff doing a great job. And of course the players, the mentality they have it’s fantastic. When I saw how they comeback again.
“It was incredible. And at the end Jules did it. It’s a perfect evening.
“I’m very proud of my team. It’s incredible that they always have an answer on the pitch, that they give everything until the end, they never give up, everyone is proud of them, not just me, but the club, the fans, they deserve it all.”
