The Mbappé-Messi show headlines the European Team of the Week while Ousmane Dembélé hits form before the 2022 World Cup and a Borussia Dortmund triumvirate inspired in a huge win

GK: Brice Samba (Racing Club de Lens)

RC Lens continue their ascendency in French football in wake of their return to Ligue 1 with a big 1-0 away win against Olympique Lyonnais, with summer signing Brice Samba once again proving decisive in goal.

RB: Juan Cuadrado (Juventus Football Club)

Juventus have found a bit of form in recent weeks in Serie A after three wins from four, with a 4-0 win over Empoli on Friday proving a bit of a statement. Colombian veteran Juan Cuadrado was excellent at right wing-back and offered two assists in a strong all-round performance.

CB: Florian Lejeune (Rayo Vallecano de Madrid)

Real Vallecano sits midtable in La Liga after going undefeated in their last three in the league, including a 5-1 thrashing of Cadiz on Saturday which saw French center-back Florian Lejeune bag a brace of goals in one of the better appearances of his career.

CB: Niklas Süle (Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e. V. Dortmund)

After arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer, Niklas Süle has been one of many inconsistent performers for Borussia Dortmund this season but the German international proved an attacking threat against VfB Stuttgart with a goal and an assist.

LB: Raphaël Guerreiro (Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e. V. Dortmund)

Though he may be off to greener pastures in the summer amid outside transfer interest, Portuguese international Raphaël Guerreiro put in a very good outing against Stuttgart, with a brace of assists showing he can still supply the goods when called upon.

CM: Jude Bellingham (Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e. V. Dortmund)

Fresh off being snubbed for FIFA’s Kopa award, England starlet Jude Bellingham continues to display that he is arguably the best young overall midfield profile in the world with a two-goal performance at the weekend that helped Dortmund earn an emphatic win.

CM: Adrien Rabiot (Juventus Football Club)

CAM: Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain)

The Argentine legend may have struggled to adapt last season, but in 2022-23 he is back to his very best and continues to bond with Kylian Mbappé on the pitch. His goal and brace of assists saw him involved in all of PSG’s goals in their 3-0 win.

RW: Ousmane Dembélé (Futbol Club Barcelona)

Barcelona continues to put their continental issues behind them and keep pace with Real Madrid near the top of the table after a strong 4-0 win over Athletic Club on Sunday which saw French winger Ousmane Dembélé bag a hat trick of assists and add a goal in the process.

LW: Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain)

Questions continued to surround the future of Kylian Mbappé, but his brace and added assist (to Messi) in their 3-0 win at the weekend showed he is still one of the best players on the planet.

CF: Lautaro Martínez (Football Club Internazionale Milano)

Italian giants Inter Milan made it three wins from three in recent weeks after a swashbuckling 4-3 away win against AC Fiorentina, with Argentina striker Lautaro Martínez bagging a brace and adding an assist to push the club over the line.
