Cristiano Ronaldo has called on Portugal to turn “dreams into reality” ahead of their opening game at Euro 2024 against the Czech Republic tonight.

Ronaldo embarks on a record sixth European Championship looking to emulate the class of 2016 who won the tournament in France.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United striker scored twice in the 3-0 friendly win over the Republic of Ireland last week although it may not be enough to earn him a place in Roberto Martinez’s starting XI in Leipzig.

Ronaldo has said he’ll “respect the coach’s decisions” whatever Martinez decides although it’s a near certainty he will appear at some point to earn a 208th cap for his country.

What else has he said?

And on X this afternoon, the Al-Nassr issued a rallying cry to his team-mates.

He wrote: “Portuguese, today begins another chapter in our history.

“I fondly remember my first day with the national team, a journey full of challenges and victories.

“Now I have the honour of being alongside a team of champions, full of talent and determination.

“With everyone’s strength and support, we can turn dreams into reality.

“Let’s fight together for another triumph. United we are unstoppable.

“Go Portugal.”
