Ajax reportedly interested in taking Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon on loan

A recent report in the English media has named Ajax as the latest club to express an interest in Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

Spurs struggles

Tottenham secured Sessegnon’s services from then-Championship outfit Fulham last summer.

The Lilywhites are understood to have paid £25m for the youngster.

However, despite his sizable price-tag, Sessegnon has barely featured since arriving in north London.

In fact, the full-back garnered just 12 appearances this season, nine of which came as a starter. Across those nine starts, meanwhile, Sessegnon only completed 90 minutes on seven occasions.

The versatile midfielder/defender did begin to secure more regular playing time when Jose Mourinho first took the reins at Spurs.

However, Sessegnon has since not featured in the Premier League since the 22nd of January.

Will Sessegnon go out on loan?

With Sessegnon struggling to secure any sort of regular football at his new club, it was reported in July that the England under-21 international could be sent out on loan for next season.

More recently, following Fulham’s promotion back to the Premier League, the Telegraph reported that Scott Parker’s side are one of the leading candidates to take Sessegnon on loan.

However, it now looks as though Fulham are set to face stiff competition from a top European side for Sessegnon’s services.

According to The Guardian, Ajax, who are on the lookout for attacking reinforcements, are interested in luring Sessegnon to the club for the 2020/21 campaign, if Tottenham make him available.

However, as well as reiterating Fulham’s interest, the report adds that Jose Mourinho is yet to decide if the youngster is part of his plans for next season.

As such, whilst it isn’t stated by The Guardian, with Spurs now set for a Europa League run next term, perhaps more regular playing time could be on the horizon for Sesegnon, as Mourinho attempts to compete in four competitions.
