MLB: Brewers’ 11th Straight Win Gives Them The League’s Best Record
"Doesn't surprise me," said Milwaukee pitcher Brandon Woodruff.
The Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Seattle Mariners yesterday by a final score of 6-0, giving the team its 11th straight win and the best record in baseball at 60-40. Pitcher Brandon Woodruff, who threw six scoreless innings on his way to a five-strikeout night, said that he expected this type of hot streak.
“Doesn’t surprise me,” he told ESPN after the win. “We got a lot of great guys in this clubhouse, and it’s a fun team. So, I feel like we say that every year, but this year’s a little bit different in a way.”
Woodruff has been vital to the Brewers’ recent winning ways. He is 3-0 in just three starts this season since being activated off the injured list on July 6th. In those appearances, he has allowed just three earned runs.
“It’s fun when you’re winning,” he said during a postgame interview. “Each and every day you come to the field, your mind doesn’t want to go ‘When’s it gonna stop?’ I think we’re in a spot now where we continue to play good baseball.”

After throwing just 62 pitches, Brandon Woodruff was replaced by Aaron Ashby, who only allowed three hits over a two-inning stretch.
“Big Woo and Contreras did a great job back there,” explained Brewers manager Pat Murphy after the game. “He could’ve kept going. He had a little cramp in his calf. He felt like he let one go and felt like it cramped a little bit. He doesn’t want to risk anything. I still was nervous about the game. Against a team this formidable with this type of lineup, there’s no safe lead.”
He’s not the only member of the pitching staff who has been having fun during this run. 24-year-old right-hander Quinn Priester is also 3-0 this month.
“We’re loving it. We’re excited to have the group that we have. We’re definitely feeding off each other,” Priester said during an interview with the MLB Network before yesterday’s game. “Going into the break, seeing the great starts that our guys had against the Dodgers and really taking care of business against the Nationals, it just kind of motivates you to continue that line of putting together good games and giving our offense a chance to win and put some runs across.”
Priester has a good point because the offense has been doing its job as of late. Last night, the Brewers exploded for four runs in the sixth inning and another two runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach.

“We had seven quality at-bats, almost, in a row in that inning,” said Murphy while discussing the sixth inning offensive explosion. “That’s what you have to do. You have to stack them.”
Unsurprisingly, Murphy isn’t satisfied with his team being the best in the league right now. He wants the Brewers to be the MLB’s best squad in September and October.
“My reaction is July 21. You read into that whatever you’d like,” he told reporters. “That’s my quote – July 21.”
The Brewers will be looking to extend their win streak to 12 games tonight when they face the Mariners in Seattle. The first pitch in that one is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. EDT.
