MLB All Star Game 2025: Kyle Schwarber praises ‘special’ prospects after NL score swing-off win
Schwarber entered the game in the fifth
Kyle Schwarber praised the National League’s mix of youth and experience after went the Philadelphia left fielder went 3 for 3 to secure victory against the American League in the first All-Star Game at Georgia’s Truist Park.
The National League won a home run swing-off 4-3 after a 6-6 tie, with their opponents becoming the first team in the history of the spectacle to recover from a six-run deficit, only to lose in dramatic fashion.
“It was interesting – exciting, fun,” said Most Valuable Player Schwarber, speaking to Fox. “There are a lot of guys who deserve this but I’m happy that it’s going home with us to Philly.”

MLB All Star Game 2025 score
The Miami Marlins’ Kyle Stowers and the New York Mets’ Pete Alonso joined Schwarber in beating the American League trio of the Athletics’ Brent Rooker, the Seattle Mariners’ Randy Arozarena and the Tampa Bay Rays’ Jonathan Aranda in the swing-off, recording a 7-6 win for the National League.
Alonso did not have to bat because Schwarber had already hit three homers, becoming the second Philadelphia player to win All-Star MVP after Johnny Callison in 1964.
“We’ve got a lot of guys who’ve been doing it great for a long time and then we’ve got a lot of young guys coming up who are going to be special in this game for a long time,” said Schwarber.
“So [I enjoy] having these conversations and having fun with them and seeing these guys go out and compete.”
MLB All Star Game swing-off ‘exciting’
Despite suffering defeat, American League manager Aaron Boone acknowledged that the swing-off had been entertaining and predicted it could become a more regular occurrence.
“It was the first time of it and a lot of pressure,” said Boone. “It’ll be interesting to see where that goes. There’s probably a world where you can see that in the future in some regular-season mix.
“I don’t think that should happen or would any time in the future, but I’ve got to say it was pretty exciting. The cameraderie that you build with the team went into overdrive, there.”
Boone described the MVP as producing “Schwarber-type things”. “I’m not shocked,” he added.
“You get that first one under your belt and he put three great swings on. I saw him nod his head like ‘I got the swing on a couple of the takes’.”
