MLB: All-Star DH Kyle Schwarber Returning To The Phillies On A Five-Year, $150M Deal
The three-time All-Star also received offers from the Mets, Red Sox, Orioles, Pirates, and Reds.
All-Star and Designated Hitter Kyle Schwarber is signing a deal to return to the Philadelphia Phillies for five years and $150 million, according to sources that spoke to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. This comes after Schwareber also reportedly received contract offers from the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Cincinnati Reds.
“I’ve always said there’s going to be mutual interest between both of us,” Schwarber said when asked about returning to Philadelphia following the Phillies’ playoff series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. “I’m looking forward to seeing when a conversation will be had and going from there.”
Kyle Schwarber set personal records for home runs (56) and RBIs (132). He led the National League in homers and recorded the most RBIs in all of baseball, which aided in his second-place finish in NL MVP voting.
“He’s been great for us. He’s our leader,” said Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper in July. “He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had, ever been around… He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever been around and one of the better guys I’ve ever played with, so I can’t see him in any other uniform. And, I think he deserves to be here.”
Kyle Schwarber joined the Philadelphia Phillies on a four-year, $79 million contract in March of 2022. During his tenure with Philly, he has recorded 528 hits for 187 home runs and 434 RBIs. He also has a .226 batting average and a .856 OPS.
“Well, number one is he’s really talented. He’s a great hitter. He’s turned himself into a great hitter,” manager Rob Thomson said of Schwarber earlier this year. “But, it’s off the field, in the clubhouse, he is one of the best guys I have ever been around to tell you the truth… He’s just the ultimate pro.”
“These guys all know how I feel about them,” Schwarber said after the Phillies were eliminated from the 2025 MLB Playoffs. “I got a lot of respect for the guys in here, our organization, the coaching staff. Everyone, top to bottom. This is a premier organization, and a lot of people should feel very lucky that, one, you’re playing for a team that is trying to win every single year, and you have a fanbase that cares, and you have ownership that cares. You have coaches that care. You have everyone in a room that cares… We’re all about winning, and it’s a great thing.”
Kyle Schwarber made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2015. While there, he famously helped Chicago break its 108-year-old World Series curse with a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians in 2016. In 2021, He signed a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals, where he played until July, when he was traded to the Boston Red Sox. After that, he signed with the Phillies, where he has been named an All-Star three times.
