Angers and Ajaccio will meet on Wednesday night at the Raymond Kopa Stadium in what has quickly become arguably the biggest game of the season for the two sides currently deep in the relegation zone of Ligue 1.

It feels as if every game that comes up is the most important of the campaign for Angers simply because of their terrible run of form. The club were hammered by Brest last time out 4-0, and considering Brest are the closest side to Angers outside of the bottom four, it’s fair to say the club have one foot in Ligue 2 already.

Abdel Bouhazama’s have now conceded the most goals in Ligue 1 with 45 and surpassed Auxerre as a result. Moreover, his side have still won just two games and sit with a 10-point gap to deal with on Brest in 16th.

Ajaccio, on the other hand, are in deep trouble themselves. A three-point gap to deal with on Brest has now opened up, but worse yet, the club also have an inferior goals difference tally to work against.

Ajaccio were beaten quite easily by Lyon on Sunday, and it now means Olivier Pantaloni only have that narrow 1-0 win over Angers to boast about since the World Cup.
