Real Madrid vs Getafe match preview

With almost nothing left to play for in La Liga this season, it’s hard to know what to expect from Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were beaten 2-0 by Real Sociedad in their last league game, so have slipped down to third, but will have secured Champions League qualification before kick off, if Villarreal fail to beat Athletic earlier.

Since that defeat in San Sebastián, Carlo Ancelotti’s team have been in action twice in two different cup competition.

First, last Saturday night, los Blancos beat Osasuna 2-1 in the Copa del Rey Final, with Rodrygo the scorer of both at Estadio de La Cartuja.

This is the first time los Merengues have captured the Copa in nine season, and means Ancelotti has won all six different trophies on offer since returning to the club two years ago.

Then, on Tuesday night, Real Madrid faced Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

It ended 1-1 at the Bernabéu, with Vinícius Júnior breaking the deadlock with an absolute rocket in the first half.

Nevertheless, having only managed a draw at home, Real will need to win in Manchester next Wednesday if they’re to remain on course for a 15th title in İstanbul.

Given that the home side are focussed on an upcoming fixture, can Getafe claim three precious points of their own in this Madrid derby?

Azulones start the weekend in the relegation zone, having sacked Head Coach Quique Sánchez Flores a fortnight ago.

His replacement, the returning José Bordalás, might just be the man to save them from relegation, masterminding a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo last time out, with Enes Ünal’s third minute penalty the difference.

So, Getafe remain in the bottom three, but could leapfrog up to four teams if they pull off an almightily upset and win.

Even with players like Jesús Vallejo, Álvaro Odriozola, Nacho, Lucas Vázquez, Dani Ceballos, Mariano Díaz and possibly even Eden Hazard rotated in, Real Madrid should prove too strong for their cross-city rivals.
