Getafe vs Elche match preview

Getafe need points to survive and, if they’re ever going to win a match, it’s surely going to be this one, right?

Last weekend, Azulones were beaten 1-0 at the Bernabéu by a mix-and-match Real Madrid side and, given that los Blancos’ priorities clearly lie elsewhere, that was a missed opportunity, even to get just a draw.

So, since José Bordalás’ return last month, he’s lost both away games but, crucially, did beat Celta de Vigo at home in-between, a result that keeps them in touch.

Getafe are in the relegation zone, but are just one point below both Cádiz and Valladolid, with those two playing each other on Friday night.

After this, Azulones’ remaining fixtures are Real Betis (A), Osasuna (H) and Valladolid (A), the latter could be huge, but, before any of that, they simply need to win this.

That’s because the away side Elche have just 19 points on the board after 34 games, with their relegation having been confirmed a few weeks ago now.

Although, els Frangiverds did prove that they’re capable of an upset last Sunday, beating the league’s form team Atlético Madrid 1-0, with Fidel Chaves the match-winner at Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.

That was Sebastián Beccacece’s second win in charge, with the Argentine the sixth man to take charge of Elche this season, including two interims.

Given that Elche haven’t won a La Liga away game on Spain’s mainland for 396 days, Getafe will feel they have to win this one at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
