Elche vs Cádiz match preview

We’ve all known for many months now that Elche will be returning to the Segunda División, but can Cádiz make mathematically sure that they won’t be joining them?

Sergio’s side have been strong at home all season, and continued that last weekend by beating fellow-strugglers Celta Vigo 1-0, with Rubén Sobrino the match-winner at Estadio Ramón de Carranza.

So, el Submarino Amarillo kick off on 41 points in 13th place, but there are a few permutations that would see them go down.

All of them avoid Cádiz losing because, even with a draw, the worst they could do is survive on head-to-head.

If you want the permutations, for Cádiz to go down they’d have to lose, Valencia would need to get a draw, Almería must win, Celta Vigo need a win and Valladolid a required to win too.

In short, it’s very unlikely, but the Yellow Submarine will not want to be relying on other results, as they seek to take care of business here.

In the last month, Sebastián Beccacece’s side have beaten both Rayo and Atlético at home, held Getafe and Sevilla to 1-1 draws and beaten Athletic at San Mamés, with Lucas Boyé scoring a 92nd minute winner.

These results are essentially meaningless, but are huge for Beccacece, the fifth man to take charge of Elche this season, as it means he’ll surely still be in charge come the start of next season.

So, as Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero waves goodbye to La Liga, will Cádiz get the result they need to rubber stamp survival?
