PSG 1-1 (2-1) Flamengo: Report, result and goals in Intercontinental Cup
Paris Saint-Germain edged past Flamengo on penalties after a 1-1 draw across 120 minutes to win the Intercontinental Cup.
After neither side could find a winning goal in extra time, the shootout swung PSG’s way in a similar pattern to the Super Cup victory over Tottenham at the start of the season.
PSG started the match on the front foot and thought they had taken an early lead through Fabian Ruiz, only for VAR to rule the effort out.
The French side continued to apply pressure through Kvaratskhelia and Vitinha, forcing Agustin Rossi into several early saves.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 38th minute when Kvaratskhelia finished from close range following Desire Doue’s shot from a tight angle, giving PSG a 1-0 lead heading into the interval.

Flamengo responded with greater urgency after the restart and were rewarded just past the hour mark. Giorgian de Arrascaeta was fouled inside the area by Marquinhos, and Jorginho converted the resulting penalty.
The equaliser shifted momentum, with the Brazilian side growing into the contest while PSG struggled to reassert much control in open play.
The remainder of normal time was marked by frequent stoppages, fouls and substitutions, disrupting any sustained rhythm. Both sides created half-chances, with Dembele, Barcola and Vitinha probing for PSG, while Pedro and Bruno Henrique offered Flamengo a direct outlet.
However, neither goalkeeper was seriously tested late on, and the match moved into extra time with the score level.
Extra-time and penalties
Extra time followed a similar pattern, with PSG seeing more of the ball and Flamengo defending compactly.
Marquinhos and Joao Neves both forced saves from Rossi, while Safonov remained alert at the other end.
Despite late pressure and a number of set pieces, neither side could find a second goal, sending the tie to penalties.
The shootout proved to be a dramatic few minutes. Vitinha and Nuno Mendes converted for PSG, while Safonov saved spot-kicks from Pedro, Saul Niguez, Leo Pereira and Luiz Araujo.
Rossi denied Barcola, but missed efforts from Dembele and multiple Flamengo takers tilted the balance in PSG’s favour.
Nuno Mendes’ successful penalty ultimately proved enough, sealing a narrow shootout victory and bringing a hard-fought encounter to a close.
