Yoane Wissa has left Brentford’s pre-season training camp in Portugal and returned to London as uncertainty around his future at the club continues to intensify.

The 28-year-old forward is set to hold talks with Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, amid strong interest from several Premier League rivals.

Reports suggest that Newcastle, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are all pursuing the DR Congo international, with the former two ramping up efforts in the past 48 hours.

All three clubs can offer Wissa the prospect of European football next season, and it’s believed that personal terms would not be an obstacle, especially with Spurs and Newcastle.

Wissa is said to have become unsettled in recent weeks due to the mounting speculation surrounding his future. Should he remain at Brentford, he is expected to rejoin the squad once they return to London. However, the outcome of his discussions with Giles will likely shape the club’s next steps.

Brentford had opened talks with Wissa over a potential contract extension, but he is understood to favour a summer move away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

The situation follows the departure of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United in a deal worth an initial £65 million, a move that Brentford had not originally planned to accompany with Wissa’s exit.

With the Congolese forward turning 29 in September and having just one year left on his current contract – though the club holds an option to extend it – Brentford may consider cashing in on a player who could still command a transfer fee in the region of £40 million or more.

Wissa joined Brentford from Lorient in August 2021 and has become a key figure for the club, scoring 49 goals in 149 appearances across all competitions. Last season, he enjoyed his most prolific Premier League campaign to date, netting 19 times in 35 matches.

Brentford are scheduled to face Gil Vicente in their first pre-season friendly on 25 July at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos, though it remains to be seen whether Wissa will still be part of the squad by then.
