Wolves 1-4 Man Utd: Report, result, goals as hosts’ dreadful season continues

Wolves’ woeful Premier League season continued with yet another pitiful defeat as Manchester United moved sixth by winning at Molineux.

Rob Edwards’ side have picked up just two points from their opening 15 games this season and remain 13 points from safety after losing an eighth game in a row.

Relegation to the Championship is surely already assured – as is the fact that Wolves will be bottom at Christmas.

Plenty of Wolves fans stayed outside of the stadium until the 15th minute in protest at the club’s current performance on and off the field.

Wolves vs Man United: Despair for hosts

A somewhat toxic atmosphere was not helped when United took the lead soon afterwards.

Andre dallied on the ball in midfield, Casemiro tackled and the ball ran on to former Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

The £62.5 million squared the ball for Bruno Fernandes, who slipped in the rain but still had time to get up and squeeze the ball through goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and in.

The home fans loudly sang “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” and boos rang out from the stands.

Somehow, Wolves rallied before the break and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde ended a run of 539 Premier League minutes without a goal with a first goal under Edwards during first-half stoppage time.

David Moller Wolfe did well on the left to cut the ball back and Bellegarde slid in to find the bottom corner.

Respite was brief, though, and United had already broken through an inexplicably high Wolves line twice in the second half before Bryan Mbeumo restored their lead.

Cunha’s great pass fed Diogo Dalot, who squared for Mbeumo to tap in from an onside position.

Mason Mount then also ran in behind a square Wolves defence to volley in a beautiful dinked ball over the top from Fernandes for the goal of the night.

The traffic was on- way, with some home fans leaving with 30 minutes left as United rained in a total of 27 attempt on goal.

There was time for a handball to be awarded against Yerson Mosquera for handball and Fernandes drilled home from the spot.
