William Saliba poised to sign new deal at Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is set to keep a key part of his Arsenal back four in William Saliba
Arsenal are set to be handed a major boost with multiple reports suggesting William Saliba will sign a new five-year contract.
The France international has entered the final 20 months of his existing deal and has been linked with Real Madrid, expediting the need to initiate talks with a view to keeping him at the Emirates.
Discussions have been ongoing for several months and, according to The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, have now reached a satisfactory ending with Saliba poised to sign a deal that will see him stay in North London until 2030 with a formal announcement due in the coming days.
Arsenal signed Saliba from Saint-Etienne in 2019 when he was a teenager and immediately sent him back to France for season-long loan spells with Nice and Marseille.
Arsenal breakthrough led to take off for Saliba
He finally broke through in the Premier League in the 2022/23 campaign and has gone on to become one of the most consistent defenders in the top flight.
Arsenal have had the best defensive record in the league over the past two seasons with Saliba, who made 51 appearances last term, forming a formidable partnership with Brazilian Gabriel.
He is the latest player to commit his long-term future to Arsenal, alongside Gabriel, Leandro Trossard, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
