West Ham 2-3 Aston Villa: Report, result, goals as Villans earn Premier League comeback win

Morgan Rogers scored twice in the second half as Aston Villa recovered from falling behind twice to win at West Ham and keep the Hammers in the Premier League relegation zone.

Mateus Fernandes pounced to put West Ham ahead after 28 seconds, stealing possession from Ezri Konsa and firing in from a tight angle.

Home defender Konstantinos Mavropanos headed in John McGinn’s delivery to draw Villa level after nine minutes, but Jarrod Bowen added the final touch to Freddie Potts’ drive to restore West Ham’s lead 15 minutes later.

England midfielder Rogers swept in from close range five minutes after half-time and scored a sublime winner from distance with 11 minutes remaining, moving Villa three points behind leaders Arsenal with a ninth straight win in all competitions.

West Ham vs Aston Villa: Emery ‘ambitious’

Villa’s extraordinary run means they are again poised to go level with the Gunners if Unai Emery’s former side lose when they visit Everton on Saturday.

Emery’s players then host Manchester United on Sunday (16:30 GMT / 11:30 ET / 08:30 PT). “We are not feeling under pressure,” said the Spaniard.

“We are feeling ambitious to try to do our work together and challenge for Europe and the Premier League, and then enjoy each match.”

Nottingham Forest’s win at home to Tottenham and Leeds’ 1-1 draw at Brentford means West Ham are three points behind the fourth-bottom Whites.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team next play away to Manchester City on Saturday (15:00 GMT / 10:00 ET / 07:00 PT).
