Takehiro Tomiyasu’s time at Arsenal has officially come to an end after the club and player mutually agreed to terminate his contract, according to reports.

The Japan international, currently in the midst of recovering from knee surgery, featured for just six minutes throughout last season.

The 26-year-old is expected to remain sidelined for up to five more months as he continues his rehabilitation from the operation he underwent in February.

Tomiyasu had also been dealing with a prior knee issue that kept him out at the start of the campaign, stemming from another surgery in 2023.

Although his contract was set to run until the end of the 2025 season, both parties have now reached a settlement to bring his spell in North London to a close.

Tomiyasu arrived at Arsenal from Italian side Bologna in 2021 and went on to make 79 appearances across all competitions.

The Gunners initially fought off competition from rivals Tottenham for his signature, but never reaped the rewards of his signing.

With defensive changes already underway at the Emirates, Arsenal are actively exploring options to strengthen their back line.

Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera is believed to be among the names on their radar.

Kieran Tierney has already made a permanent return to Celtic, and Oleksandr Zinchenko could also be on his way out before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

Martin Zubimendi is also set to be unveiled by the club as a midfield reinforcement, while Kepa Arrizabalaga has been brought in from Chelsea.
