Liverpool hand debut to new signing as Florian Wirtz left out of Preston friendly

Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will make his unofficial debut for the club in their friendly with Preston North End.

The Georgia goalkeeper, whose transfer from Valencia was made official this week, has been named in the starting XI for the game at Deepdale.

However, there is no place in the squad for Germany international Florian Wirtz, Liverpool’s club-record signing, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in a £116million move last month.

In addition to Wirtz, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz have also been omitted from the squad. The latter has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich credited with an interest.

Those left out are said to be taking part in individual training sessions instead.

New signings Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman have all been named on the bench.

The game will mark the first for Liverpool since the tragic death of forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in a car accident on July 3.
