Idrissa Gueye red card: Everton boss Moyes ‘likes players fighting’, reveals apology
Idrissa Gueye said sorry for Everton's red card vs Man United
David Moyes says Idrissa Gueye addressed his teammates in the dressing room after his bizarre sending off at Manchester United – and the Everton manager claims he “quite likes” his players “fighting each other and getting annoyed”.
Gueye saw red in the 13th minute after being adjudged to have struck teammate Michael Keane in the face during an argument, with former United manager Moyes’s side then scoring the only goal of the game through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s finish from the edge of the box 16 minutes later.

“He’s apologised in the dressing room,” Moyes told Sky Sports after winning as an opposition manager at Old Trafford for the first time at the 18th attempt.
“He’s praised the players incredibly for their performance and thanked them for it.”

Idrissa Gueye red card: Moyes questions referee
Senegal midfielder Gueye raised his hand to defender Keane but the contact appeared to be minimal, causing Moyes to query referee Tony Harrington’s decision after Everton’s first win at United since 2013.
“I’m surprised,” said Moyes. “If [no punishment] had happened, I don’t think anyone in the stadium would have been surprised.
“The referee could have maybe taken a bit longer to think about it – maybe just gone over and sorted it and had a think about it.
“There’s another side: I quite like my players fighting each other and getting annoyed with each other because it was a bad ball or someone didn’t do the right action.
“That’s part of it – if you want a winning team and the resilience and toughness that got us the result, then you have to have players who are going to act that way.”

Dewsbury-Hall: Everton ‘fantastic’ vs Man United
Dewsbury-Hall, who scored Everton’s first goal at United since 2021, called Gueye’s dismissal “just a moment of madness”.
“It was avoidable but Idrissa’s apologised to us all at full time and said his piece,” added the £28 million signing from Chelsea in August.
“That’s all he can do and we move on. It probably made us grow even more as a team. [Moyes] just said ‘look, that’s done – we’ll deal with that another time’.
“It was a rollercoaster game. I’ll sleep well tonight, put it that way. I’m so happy for the lads, how hard they worked.
“It was a fantastic performance of just gritting away, getting that goal, keeping together and showing that spirit.”
