Everton midfielder Garner signs new contract until 2030

James Garner has committed his future to Everton after signing a new four-and-a-half-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a near ever-present this season, starting every match in all competitions and contributing three goals and three assists.

His previous deal was due to expire this summer, prompting speculation over his future, including reports of interest from former club Manchester United late last year.

Garner arrived at Goodison Park in 2022 after progressing through United’s academy and making seven senior appearances. Since then, he has established himself as a central figure in Everton’s midfield, a role that has only strengthened following David Moyes’ return to the club in January last year.

Everton currently sit 10th in the Premier League table, four points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool, and face Leeds United at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday. Garner believes the squad should be targeting a place in European competition.

“That is what we should be aiming for as a club, as players and as staff. Nothing less,” he said in an interview with Everton TV.

Statistically, Garner has been one of the league’s most influential midfielders this season. He leads the Premier League for combined tackles, interceptions and key passes, with a total of 123 across those three categories.

He also credited Moyes for giving him the platform to perform consistently.

“The manager has really trusted me, and what he asks me to do on a matchday suits how I play,” Garner said. “He has been really important since he came in.”
