Bukayo Saka signs record Arsenal contract: Details of £300k-a-week deal to 2031

Bukayo Saka has signed a five-year deal to remain at Arsenal that will make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, according to reports this afternoon.

The contract extension – reportedly worth more than £300,000 a week – was agreed several weeks ago but the England international has now put pen to paper in another major boost for the title-chasing Gunners, according to the BBC.

Saka had 18 months left on his remaining deal and would have become a target for Europe’s major clubs had the situation dragged on beyond the summer.

No realistic chance of Saka leaving Arsenal

In reality, there was little chance of that happening with the 24-year old eager to remain at the Emirates having come through Arsenal’s Hale End academy to become one of its star players.

Saka has made almost 300 appearances for Arsenal since making his debut against Vorskla Poltava in 2018 and won 48 caps for England. He is expected to be a key man for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions at this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The move continues Arsenal’s policy of trying to tie down their best young players on long-term deals with Saka following in the footsteps of William Saliba, Gabriel, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly in agreeing to stay.

Saka stars for Arsenal in central role

Predominantly a right-sided attacker, Saka featured in a more central role against Wigan in the FA Cup at the weekend and thrived in a 4-0 win.

And Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed he enjoys playing as a number 10.

He said: ”I think he does and everything that brings a challenge to him. He needs to prove something I think, it does something to him and it is positive.”

Arsenal take on Wolves tomorrow night looking to extend their advantage over Manchester City at the top of the table to seven points.
