Arsenal close to agreeing deal for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres – reports
The Gunners are finally set to land a striker.
Arsenal are nearing an agreement to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting in a deal worth €73.5 million (£63.5 million), including performance-based add-ons.
Negotiations between the two clubs have intensified over the past week, with discussions now entering the final stages.
The latest proposal from the Gunners improves upon their earlier offer of €70 million (£60 million), which had also included bonuses.
Gyokeres, 27, has already settled personal terms with Arsenal and is expected to sign a five-year contract. Once the clubs finalise the remaining aspects of the transfer, the formalities are expected to be completed quickly.
Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta travelled to Lisbon late last week to lead face-to-face discussions with Sporting in an effort to get the deal over the line.
Meanwhile, Gyokeres has come under internal scrutiny at his current club. Sporting president Frederico Varandas confirmed the forward is facing disciplinary measures after failing to report for pre-season training.

“No one is above the interests of the club,” Varandas told Portuguese news agency Lusa.
Gyokeres has yet to issue a public statement explaining his absence.
Since leaving Brighton and excelling at Coventry, Gyokeres has transformed into one of Europe’s most prolific forwards. His record in Portugal has been nothing short of exceptional, netting 97 goals in 102 appearances across two seasons and helping Sporting secure back-to-back league titles.
Last season alone, he scored 54 goals in 52 appearances – numbers that have attracted serious attention from Europe’s elite, and now seem set to earn him a return to English football with one of the Premier League’s top clubs.
