Orlando City set to land French World Cup star Griezmann in major addition for MLS

Antoine Griezmann will fly out to the United States during the international break to finalise his move to Orlando City.

Griezmann, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, already has a contract on the table from the Major League Soccer club and will head to Orlando in the next few days to agree a deal that will see him leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.

There were rumours that Griezmann may move to the Floridian club prior to the start of the new MLS campaign but he vowed to remain at Atletico until the summer.

The 35-year-old will leave a large hole behind at Atleti, for whom he has made almost 500 appearances across two spells. Griezmann is the club’s leading goalscorer but perhaps has not had the success his dedication deserves with his trophy haul amounting to just one Spanish Super Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and the Europa League title.

He will hope that is added to when Atleti face Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final on April 18.

Griezmann will join an Orlando outfit that has endured a difficult start to the season with coach Oscar Parejo sacked after six years in charge.

Parejo was fired after a 5-0 defeat to New York City on March 7. His assistant Martin Perelman took charge but, despite an opening win over Montreal, Orlando were beaten 5-0 by Nashville at the weekend.
