Lionel Messi admits ‘I am weirder than s—‘

Lionel Messi says he is “weirder than shit” and enjoys his own space away from the limelight.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently on his off-season with Inter Miami after another prolific Major League Soccer campaign that saw him plunder 29 goals and add 19 assists in just 28 regular season games. He then added a further 15 goal contributions to lead Miami to their first MLS Cup title.

In the process, he became the first man in history to win the MLS MVP award in consecutive seasons.

Messi has yet to commit to playing in the World Cup this summer but it would be a major surprise if the Argentina captain was not a key figure in their bid to defend the crown they won in 2022 in Qatar.

Messi: I like being alone

The 38-year-old has been in the public eye even before he made his Barcelona debut in 2004 and he admits he craves peace and quiet, even if that means time away from his three children.

He told Argentine streaming channel Luzu TV: “I’m weirder than shit. I really like being alone, I enjoy being alone.

“The chaos at home with the three kids running around everywhere ends up saturating me and I like a moment of solitude.”

If the chaos leads him to have a drink, Messi revealed an unusual choice for his favourite tipple.

He explained: “I like wine, but if not, I have my usual: wine with Sprite. So it hits fast!”

Messi also confirmed he has no interest in a coaching career once he hangs up his boots, although a role as a club owner does appeal.
