Former Leeds star blasts Inter Miami and claims it’s a ‘disaster’ due to Lionel Messi
Lionel Messi has had a huge impact on MLS but not everyone is impressed
Former DC United and Atlanta United midfielder Mateusz Klich has dismissed Inter Miami as a destination for footballers wanting to play in Major League Soccer, and blamed Lionel Messi for making the club a “disaster”.
Klich, who now plays for Cracovia in his native Poland, spent two and a half years in the United States after leaving Leeds United, and was asked about the best places to play.
Miami and South Florida seems a dreamy destination for most but the 35-year-old advised against it while Messi, and his father, were there.
Klich told Foot Truck: “I don’t recommend Miami as long as Messi is there. It’s a disaster.
“People are leaving, coaches and physiotherapists are leaving. Organisationally, it’s bad.
“Messi’s father essentially runs the club. Everyone speaks Spanish, and nothing can be done without their consent. The club itself is also 45 to 50 minutes away from Miami.”
Head for New York, says Klich
Instead of Miami, Klich recommended New York as the place to go.
“I would recommend New York,” he added. “Red Bull has a better stadium now, but City is also building a great stadium.
“There are clubs like Columbus Crew and Cincinnati that have great stadiums and a great base, but life there is very boring.
“I would recommend Nashville if you have the opportunity to go to Nashville SC. It’s a beautiful place, the capital of the country. Portland and Seattle have atmosphere, but it’s the end of the world.”
It is unlikely Messi will be too concerned by Klich’s criticism. The Argentina captain has scored 64 goals and added 31 assists in 76 Miami games with his side fifth in the Eastern Conference and with games in hand on all the sides above them.
Their next game comes tonight when they visit New York City.
