Zubimendi unsure over future amid Arsenal speculation
Martin Zubimendi expressed uncertainty over his future amid continued speculation over a move to Arsenal.
The Real Sociedad midfielder remained with the Basque side for the 2024-25 season despite interest from Liverpool.
Now it is the Gunners who are viewed as the favourites for his signature, though a deal for the Spain international does not appear imminent.
In response to reports claiming Zubimendi was set for an Arsenal medical, Zubimendi uploaded a picture from the beach in San Sebastian to his Instagram story to clearly indicate those claims were false.
Asked about his future in an interview with Radio Nacional de Espana, Zubimendi said: “Of course there are options, but it’s true that it seems like it’s going to be a different, long summer, and I don’t know how it will end.
“I don’t think thinking about it right now is my priority. I’m here with the national team, which I think is already quite demanding, and if I have to say something, then I will.”
On his recent social media activity, Zubimendia added: “It’s an example of what surrounds football.
“Many times I wake up in the morning and read things that I didn’t know I had done. That was a clear example.
“It’s true that I don’t take it very seriously, but anyway, I uploaded those photos to emphasise a little that it wasn’t exactly the reality that was happening.”
A member of the Spain side that won Euro 2024 last year, Zubimendi will hope to help La Roja to the Nations League final with victory over France on Thursday.
With a third-place play-off and the final to be held on Sunday, Spain will be playing two matches over this international window regardless of the outcome against France, meaning a Zubimendi transfer will not be happening this week.
