Barcelona star Pedri ruled out for a month due to hamstring injury

Barcelona suffered a major blow this morning when it was confirmed star midfielder Pedri will miss the next month due to a hamstring injury sustained against Slavia Prague last night.

The Spain international was substituted 61 minutes into the 4-2 victory in the Czech capital and tests this morning at the Ciutat Esportiva showed the extent of the damage.

A club statement read: “Tests conducted this morning have confirmed that first team player Pedro González “Pedri” has a right hamstring injury, which he picked up during the game against Slavia Prague yesterday. The recovery time is expected to be one month.”

It is a major blow for the player, who has already suffered from two injuries the season, causing him miss five games, and in particular his club.

For all the talk around the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, Pedri remains their best and most consistent player.

A metronomic midfielder with enormous ability and energy, he is the heartbeat of the Catalan team.

Which games will Pedri miss?

He is out of Sunday’s game with Oviedo and the crunch Champions League clash at home to FC Copenhagen next Wednesday. It is a game Barca must win if they are to stand any realistic chance of breaking into the top eight and securing an automatic place in the round of 16.

If Barca are forced into the Champions League playoffs, Pedri will not be available for the first leg and potentially the return game as well.
