Zambia 0-3 Morocco: Report, result and goals as hosts cruise to victory
It was an easy win for the hosts.
Africa Cup of Nations hosts Morocco sealed top spot in Group A with an easy 3-0 win over Zambia.
The 2022 World Cup semi-finalists were held by Mali last time out but returned to form in style against the 2012 champions.
A double from Ayoub El Kaabi and a strike from Brahim Diaz sealed the points for Morocco.
Their win, combined with Mali’s draw with Comoros, means Mali means progress as runners-up in Group A behind Morocco.
Morocco ease into knockouts
Morocco needed just nine minutes to break the deadlock as El Kaabi headed in Azzedine Ounahi’s lofted pass.
The tournament hosts continued to dominate thereafter and Brahim made it 2-0 when he turned home from Abde Ezzalzouli’s pull back.
El Kaabi essentially made the points safe five minutes into the second half as he doubled his tally with a stunning bicycle kick.
There was never any hope of a Zambia comeback thereafter, with Morocco able to celebrate their progression to the last 16 in style.
They are joined in the knockouts by Mali, who finished second in Group A as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Comoros despite Amadou Haidara being sent off late on.
