Saudi win latest World Cup qualifier
Two more Asian sides will qualify for the 2026 finals
Sauudi Arabia hung on to beat Indonesia 3-2 in their first match in the fourth round of quualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Six Asian teams have already qualified for next year’s finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with two more spots up for grabs this month.
Two groups of three teams are playing each other in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with the two group winners progressing to the finals.
Indonesia, coached by Barcelona legend Patrick Kluivert, took a shock lead in Jeddah through a Kevin Diks penalty.
Saudi Arabia levelled through Saleh Abu Al Shamat and Feras Albrikan made no mistake with a penalty of his own. Albrikan got a second and while Diks’ second spot-kick of the game gave Indonesia hope, the hosts picked up a vital win.
In Qatar, the hosts drew 0-0 with Oman to leave their group tight.
