Three-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions Nigeria were aiming to go one better at the 2025 tournament than their defeat in the final at the last edition.

The Super Eagles beat Cameroon, Angola and South Africa in the knockout stage and led in the decider before losing 2-1 to host nation the Ivory Coast in 2023.

Eric Chelle’s side stayed perfect in their group at the 2025 finals, beating Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania on their way to the second round, going out on penalties to Morocco in the semi-finals before claiming third place.
