Galatasaray 1-0 Liverpool: Reds undone in Istanbul
First-half penalty does for muddled Reds
Liverpool’s poor week continued with Champions League defeat in Istanbul aas Galatasaray pipcked up a 1-0 win on a troubled night for Arne Slot.
The Premier League champions were abject throughout and also lost key men to injuries, as goalkeeper Alisson and forward Hugo Ekitike came off.
Slot played Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back with Jeremie Frimpong on the wing as he surprisingly dropped Mo Salah to the bench alongside record signing Alexander Isak.
Szoboszlai then conceded a penalty with some slack defending and Victor Osimhen converted.
Salah and Isak came on in the second half but Liverpool looked short of ideas. Cody Gakpo did have one shot cleared off the line but there was little spark from either of Slot’s big-name forwards.
They nearly had yet another late reprieve when a penalty was given for a foul on Ibrahima Konaté – but VAR overturned it.
Alexis Mac Allister and Lucas Torreira flashed wide from distance in stoppage time but there was to be no more goals.
